How to Write Your Own Wedding Ceremony Vows

A very special way to celebrate your big day is to write your own wedding vows. Many couples choose to write their own vows as opposed to repeating traditional vows. You may write customized vows or you may just want to change the traditional vows in a slight way to make them more personal for you. Some people feel nervous when confronted with the task of writing their personalized wedding vows. Writing your own vows doesn't have to be anxiety producing. With a little guidance you can come up with the perfect vows for your wedding day.

It may be tough to start writing your wedding vows just sitting with a blank sheet of paper in front of you. The best way to do this is to think about what you love about the person you are marrying. Make a list of reasons you love them and their best qualities. Then, you may want to list romantic or special times you've shared together. Even the difficult times can be used to bring you closer together. You may also want to take note of your favorite songs that remind you of your love. If you're having trouble finding inspiration, pick up some poetry books.

There are many poems, that talk about love and some that have nothing to do with it. You may want to look for collections of romantic love poems, which should be found in abundance at your local library or bookstore. By browsing through such books you can find poems and sentiments that reflect how you feel. You may want to include a verse or two in your personalized vows. You don't want to copy someone else's words for your vows, but including a few lines from a beautiful love poem can be a great idea.

Before your wedding day, you may want to go over your vows with your partner. Of course, some couples want the vows to be a surprise on the wedding day. If this is what you are doing, you will want to review the vows with someone close to the person you are marrying to get a second opinion. The last thing you want are vows that are not appropriate or vows that are not as good as they can be. By getting a trusted friend or family member to review your personalized wedding ceremony vows you can ensure they are as romantic and meaningful as possible.
